These don’t ever pop up for sake locally so here is your chance to own a great R2R Dac. I have done the firmware upgrade so it is now switchable between NOS and OS mode. You can also upgrade it to the latest spec with a new board that just slots in, the upgrade board is $399 from Schitt. From the reading ive done the newer board is more clinical sounding with more detail. This Gen 2 version is very detailedcas well but has just a hint of warmth to keep things nicely balanced.
Theta Dac lovers might like this Dac as an upgrade, you can definitely hear Mike Moffet influence on the sound, it’s still smooth and non fatiguing with string bass and body but adds a lot more detail and resolution compared to the old Theta Dacs. The sound is holographic and lively with a slight forwardness which brings vocals out the mix very nicely.
